We will have to work hard and prepare for the exams, but that does not stop us from being leaders, says newly badged Gospel Primary School headboy, Daniel Korocawiri.

The Year 8 student, of Dratabu, Nadi, was among 42 other prefects badged during the school’s prefect induction ceremony in Suva yesterday.

The 13-year-old  said he was nervous about the upcoming school terms, but is well prepared to show his leadership skills to the fellow students.

“I know it will not be an easy task to take care of because we have external exams this year as well as extra duties as heads of the school.

“But nothing is impossible if we put our heart into it and work towards achieving the best results.

“I am also an Under-13 rugby player for the school, but I have put my academic as my first priority before anything else.

“I have to studied and make a successful career for my mother.

“After my dad passed away seven years ago, I have always tried to put in all my effort into making my dad’s dream come true.

“And I hope one day I will achieve it and make him proud as he is watching and blessing me from heaven,” Daniel said.

Headgirl of the school, Melaia Sila, of Cavaga Solevu in Bua, said her hobby was to help everyone and now she will apply it with her fellow students.

“I always love helping people around me and this is the opportunity to help and support other students in the school as their head girl.

“I want to set an example to always support each other in good and bad times to maintain the friendship amongst each other and my inspiration comes from my dad who is currently in Lau helping the families rebuild their homes after the devastation caused by Tropical Cyclone Winston,” said 12-year-old Melaia.
