Headboy Role Surprises Rishneel

Sangam Primary School student leaders reminded to help teachers carry out their roles.
Prefect induction ceremony is a memorable event in every new academic year, says retired Northern Divisional Education officer Mohammed Rafiq.
During the induction of 20 prefects on Friday at the Tabucola Valibar Sangam Primary School in Labasa, Mr Rafiq said the event made every child discover the leadership qualities within them.
This was evident when the newly inducted headboy, Rishneel Chand, was caught off guard when his name was called out.
“I am so surprised because I was thinking how is it that a baker’s son will be the head of a school,” the 14-year-old of Tabucola, Labasa, said.
“My father will be so happy and I can’t wait to tell my mother that I am now confident to become a primary scholar in future.”
Mr Rafiq further said: “Prefects should be trusted, helpful, loyal, courteous, smile under all difficulties, saves time, clean in thought, word and deed.
“They should assist students who have problems so onus was on the prefects to bring to the attention of their class teachers, assistant teachers and head teachers.
“Always be helpful to the teachers in carrying out the allocated duties. Judges are neutral so the prefects have to be the same too.”
Meanwhile, headgirl Gorishna Latchmi of Solove, Labasa, said she was confident about her selection as headgirl.
“Now with this appointment comes with responsibility and I have to make sure to look after the school and teachers.”
The school has 105 students.
