QVS Roll Stands at 1025

The School roll at Queen Victoria School now stands at 1025.
Education Minister Mahendra Reddy confirmed the number yesterday.
Classes resumed at the school at end of last month after it was re-opened by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
The school suffered severe damages during Tropical Cyclone Winston last year.
Concerns were raised by some parents about the number of students in a class – some well over 40.
Mr Reddy said: “People should understand that student teacher ratio varies from school to both within urban area as well between urban and rural.
Urban to rural variation is due to migration from rural to urban areas.
“Variation within urban area between schools is due to school preference by parents.”
Mr Reddy gave the example of DAV Girls which has student numbers in class between 18 to 30.
Rural schools he said, have class sizes from 5 to 20.
Meanwhile, QVS has 44 teachers which means a 1:23 student-teacher ratio.
