Sprinters Want Medals

Taka Vulaono and Josefa Vadei of Ratu Sukuna Memorial School (RSMS) hope to win medals at the Cola-Cola Games next month.
Yesterday, they were at the ANZ Stadium in Suva to prepare for their inter-house competition on Thursday.
Vulaono, who hails from Namuka, Lau, said it has been two years since he took part in the Coke Games.
“I’m a sprinter and this is going to be my third year if I make the team to the Coke Games. I’m working hard to win knowing very well the athletes I will compete against.
“Some of the things I need to watch are my training, diet and commitment.
“Everyone is out there trying to prove their worth and sometimes I look down on myself. But faith, trust and determination is what keeps me going. To be the best you have to give your best and I know that this year’s inter-house, zone and Coke Games will be a different one for me because I have been working hard,” Vulaono added.
Vadei, who is from Matuku, Lau, hopes to get a chance to represent Fiji in the Olympic Games. The 16-year-old sprinter will also participate in the long jump event.
“If I don’t start training now I won’t be able to achieve my goal. To represent my school is like playing for your country, the burden you carry sometimes is too much but you have to suffer in order to get there.
“For this year’s Coke Games my message to other athletes is to step out of their comfort zone and fight for themselves,” Vadei added.
