Group leader Lako says more is needed to help rebuild school.

Former scholars of Queen Victoria School back in 1985 yesterday handed in their first gift to the school.

The class of 85, as they preferred to be called, had taken more than five years to address their prolonged plans until yesterday when they bought and donated an overhead projector, laptops and other equipment worth $10,000 to address larger gatherings like the prefect induction.

Group president and USP lecturer, Jone Lako, said the class of 85 that included names like former Brussels Ambassador Peceli Vocea, and Fiji National Provident Fund chief operating officer Jaoji Koroi were adamant on their plans, but had to wind down again after TC Winston struck last February.

“But plans had centred around a gift that can be used in the techno world we live in today,” Mr Lako said.

The items donated, he said could be used for school events and for live streams if the need arose for old scholars living overseas.

“As of now, we have 53 people in our mailing list and people who know us can contact me on my USP mailing list,” he said.

“Assistance and rebuilding are taking place in the school, but more is still to be done.”
