Leadership runs in the family, says proud father IowaneBulivou.

The 62-year-old retired head teacher of Vuna District School, originally of Yacata, Cakaudrove, was overjoyed yesterday.

He witnessed his youngest son, Alifereti Ledua, become the headboy of William Cross College in Nasinu.

Alifereti is the youngest of seven siblings.

The Year 13 student was among 36 other prefects of his school, to be inducted yesterday.

Mr Bulivou said: “My eldest son, Atunaisa Vatale, has set up a great example of a great leader with leadership skills.

“And likewise my youngest has proved that he can be a leader too.

“Today I am a very proud father.”

He said Alifereti was the first in the family to hold the headboy position.

“All my children have a history of holding prefect positions in their respective schools but Alifereti is the first in the family to become the headboy,” MrBulivou said.

As a retired head teacher, MrBulivou was aware of what was expected of his son.

“I know what the expectations of the principal and teachers are from my son and I am very well assured that he will carry out his duties,” he said.

“I have asked him to stay focus on his academics and his rugby games as well as setting up a great example for the juniors at the school.”

Alifereti said his focus was to improve the school’s discipline.

“Our school discipline defines us students and that is what I would want to first focus on as the headboy,” he said.

“I have to make sure that when I leave, my juniors carry on with the legacy of discipline of the school.”
