Vodafone Fijian 7s utility back Waisea Nacuqu has never played in the Las Vegas and Vancouver tournaments of the World Sevens Series.

This time around the 23-year-old is determined to defy all odds and make the final cut.

“I have played in almost every tournament since my debut in 2013,” he said.

“These are the two places left and I’m glad to be in the extended squad once again and I will try my best to be part of the 14 players that make the cut for these tournaments.”

The Votua, Ba native admitted that it is going to be an uphill battle with the likes of Amenoni Nasilasila, Seremaia Tuwai and Emosi Mulevoro around.

“The halfback position is a very crucial role in the team as he always mastermind every move they make,” he said.

Nacuqu has played 32 matches during the Series.

He has scored 145 points from 23 tries and 15 conversions. Also he has copped the yellow card a.

“I have done some serious sacrifice for the past few weeks while in the village.

“I have learnt a lot after being dropped from the previous tournaments.

“I have recovered from the calf muscle injury and have worked on my fitness too.

“My fitness level had dropped but now it has picked up and I’m ready for this camp.”
