Ahmed Heads Nadi FA

The Nadi Football Association has appointed vice-president, Javed Ahmed as interim president. The appointment was done during their annual general meeting at Nadi Sangam School on Monday night.
Ahmed takes over from outgoing president Navneed Gounder who has resigned because of personal commitments.
“There were no major issues; the former president did well in the last four years,” he said.
“It was tough off the field but we won three tournaments last year.
“We were pretty successful and we need to continue with the momentum.
“We need to work on our sponsorship and how we can work with the respective clubs and take them to another level. We will discuss that in the next BOC meeting which is expected soon for the appointment of new members to assist the association.”
Ahmed said the AGM went well and the accounts were in order.
“We have a day for the close of the Transfer Window so we have to sort out a strong team for Nadi. We have to play two important matches against Dreketi and Labasa away this weekend as well,” he said.
Ahmed thanked Gounder since he has given a lot as a player and official for the association.
“That will not be matched but will seek his help along the way. I will remain the team director until new hands come over in the future. “Through soccer I have a lot of contacts and will take at least one year for us to try to rebuild Nadi to become the country’s top team.”
Ahmed who is originally from Lautoka, have spent 15 years in Nadi. He has represented Lami football as a midfielder from 1999 to 2001 while based in Suva.
He joined Nadi FA four years ago as vice-president and took over as the team’s director since then. Ahmed has handled admin work as well understudying Gounder since there was no office staff.
OTHER APPOINTMENT
Police prosecutor Mun Sami Chetty has been elected as the new vice- president replacing Sunil Singh who has resigned last year.
He edged out other two nominees Sanjay Kirpal and Shiva Gounder
“We are here for Nadi FA and we will work with the new interim president in regard to the admin of the association. Nadi FA does not have a disciplinary committee and this is one aspect as we try to put Nadi on the top,” said Chetty.
