Augustine House Top

Augustine House won the 2017 Marist Brothers’ High School inter-house athletics competition at the ANZ Stadium yesterday.
The boys in green collected 5079 points, Lambert second (4587), Alphonsus third (4459) and Claudius fourth (4160).
School principal Ben Salacakau said as defending champions of the Coca-Cola Games, the pressure’s on the team to win the event again in April.
“It was a good day for us under favourable weather and the inter-house is about participation of everyone,” Salacakau said.
“We will take part in all events during the zone meet and from there work out how many to field for the Coke Games.
“We are the defending champions and everybody is expecting us to do it again there’s a lot of pressure on us.
“We look at what we’ve because we lost some of our top athletes from last year. Some of them have gained scholarships in New Zealand, so we need to fill the vacuum and work hard.
“It’s about quality we don’t want to send 70 athletes and only win 10 gold medals. If we send 20 athletes and win 16 gold that’s better but whatever happens on the day we have to prepare for that.
“We are confident of our training programme since we have old scholars who are part of Athletics Fiji helping us.”
Bolstering the Marist track events are Josefa Tabakaucoro and national rep Keasi Naidroka.
