Nadi Aviators Rugby League team captain Akuila Utoni is grateful to lead his side against the Papua New Guinea’s champions, Lae Snax Tigers.

The two teams meet in the Champion versus Champion clash on Saturday at Lawaqa Park at 3pm.

While receiving their new uniform at the Fiji National Rugby League headquarters  yesterday, Utoni tagged the clash as a ‘David and Goliath’ battle.

“We understand that Lae Snax are the PNG champion and will be coming in full force so it’s a big challenge for me to lead my team,” he said.

“I’m glad the boys are all eager and looking forward to meet the Tigers on Saturday as this would be a David and Goliath battle.”

Coach Vela Tawake is adamant of a positive result despite missing some of his key players.

“The boys are doing well during training and we want to thank the Fiji National Rugby League for supporting us,”Tawake said.

“We know there are a lot of expectations from the public but the boys are ready for the challenge and will give the Tigers a good run.”

The Aviators will play without Rusiate Saukuru who has departed to join Tasman Rugby (Mitre 10 Cup) and Kavekini Varo and Jonetani Matewai who are awaiting documentation to join Northland Rugby in New Zealand.

Three Fiji Resident players have joined the side in Joasa Drodrolagi (Nabua Broncos), Anisito Komai (Kinoya Sea Eagles) and winger Simon Wise (Coastline Roos).

The idea of the CVC is to strengthen local club competition and also gives opportunity for local players to expose their talents.

“Once we have strong clubs competition, we will then have a strong national team,” FNRL chief executive officer Timoci Naleba said.
