The four-star boutique, Nukubati Private Island Resort, has been inducted in the Hall of Fame Trip Advisor awards for Travellers Choice 2017.

The property of seven bure is situated off the coast of Macuata in Vanua Levu.

To be inducted in the Hall fame, resorts must win a Certificate of excellence over five consecutive years.

TripAdvisor is a global online travel ratings site .

It recognises tourism properties based on the millions of reviews and opinions by travellers it gets each year.

Director/owner Jenny Bourke said they were proud to receive such accolades.

“This is the second time the properties have been classed since 2014. We are the only property in Fiji to receive the Hall of Fame,” she said.

“There are a lot of properties in Fiji. Nukubati has being up there and we are happy for the recognition.

“I really believe that tourism in Fiji provides opportunities for local people to benefit themselves in whatever way they want to. It provides a way to better themselves and tourism provides the other platform.”

The couple acquired Nukubati in 1990.

“We came to Fiji and fell in love with and we bought the property.

“We later opened the resort after our friends suggested the idea to us.”

She added: “We wanted it to provide a Fijian experience. When we first opened we traded as a five-star resort but since then a lot of other properties have come along and have superseded us in terms of the facilities.”

She added it was team work that landed the good feedback from the guests who enjoyed the Fijian experience on Nukubati over the past 26 years.

The property is undergoing renovations from January 20 and is scheduled to re-open in April.
