The ocean is her life and her personal role within tourism is to have visitors leave Fiji with remarkable memory moments of Fiji’s beauty and diverse reefs.

This is how Whitetip Marine Adventures Limited owner, Andrew Cole, describes Sharon Sharma Vataiki’s passion.

Ms Vataiki is one of the three finalists for the Emerging Tourism Leader category in the 2017 ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards.

The awards night will be held at the Sheraton Resort’s Convention Centre in Nadi this Saturday.

She has been part of the tourism industry as a scuba diving instructor for more than 10 years.

She currently works as a Diving Operations manager/Head Dive instructor at Whitetip Marine Adventures Limited based in Port Denarau, Marina.

Ms Vataiki, 33, is the highest qualified Fijian female dive instructor working in Fiji.

“This is really surprising and exciting news. This nomination gives me opportunities to managerial posts,” Ms Vataiki said.

“Sharon recently attained the certification level of ‘Dive Control Specialist Instructor ‘ which allows her to train and certify assistant scuba dive instructors for international visitors to Fiji, and the Fiji tourism dive industry as a whole,” Mr Cole said.

She is a marine biologist graduate of the University of the South Pacific.

Ms Vataiki worked as a scuba dive instructor with Reef Safari Fiji under Mr Coles’ management, as a site manager/dive instructor at dive centres of Intercontinental Fiji Resort, Robinson Crusoe Island, Amunuca Island Resort, Bounty Island, South Sea Island, Mantaray Island Resort, Barefoot Manta Resort, Reef Endeavour cruise ship, Ra Marama day trip, Whales Tale day trip and Oolala day trip vessels.

Mr Cole said Ms Vataiki had shown great leadership skills in all aspects of certified diver experiences and diver training.

On the Trip Advior, Ms Vataiki has outstanding reviews throughout Whitetip Marine Adventures.

As Operations manager/Head Dive instructor at Whitetip, Ms Vataiki is responsible for company employee professional diver development and conducts all professional training personally.

She manages a team of eight people on a daily basis.

“Sharon is becoming an outstanding leader within the Fiji tourism industry for the future.  She is definitely part of my own succession plan and I am progressively developing Sharon’s senior management skills.

“Most important are her leadership skills, which are a necessary growth requirement for Fiji’s tourism sector and to retain vital leadership roles for Fiji citizens,” Mr Cole said.
