Operators of “river taxis” in the Rewa River are relieved that a submerged dredge has been refloated.
The sunk dredge, swept down during a flood last year, was a hazard for the operators.
Parts of the dredge sticking out above water could rip to pieces a wooden board. Even fiberglass boats were vulnerable.
Keni Tubuna Lalanabaravi, 57, of Muanaira Village, Vutia, said they were happy the dredge had been pulled out from the bottom of the Rewa River.
The dredge is owned by Chinese Enterprises Limited which operates a concrete block-making factory at Davuilevu near Nausori.
