Jennings Out, Gamel Go Local

Australia-based striker Leroy Jennings will not be included in Fiji’s campaign for the OFC 2018 FIFA World Cup playoff next month, says Christophe Gamel.
The Vodafone Fijian national football head coach aims to maximise local talent as they host the New Zealand in the first playoff at Churchill Park, Lautoka on March 25. The return leg will be in New Zealand on March 28.
“Leroy Jennings will not join camp because he is waiting to join the Australia national team,”Gamel said.
“I respect his decision and I wish him the best and if he is not selected then will see what happens.
“For now I prefer to give opportunity to local players.”
Gamel has released the Ba and Rewa players to their districts to prepare for the OFC Champions League.
“I think it’s important they go back to their club to prepare. I’m giving new players a chance to be in the national team,”Gamel said.
“I saw a player during a futsal tournament but I will ask him if he agrees then I will take him in.”
Meanwhile, major sponsor Vodafone welcomed Gamel in Suva on Wednesday.
“I want to thank Vodafone for their support towards the national teams, they play a vital role to our preparation,” Gamel said.
