Aviators In Good Hands: Tawake

Akuila Utonitakari, 28, will lead the Nadi Aviators Rugby League side against the Papua New Guinea champions Lae Snax Tigers in the Champion versus Champion clash at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka today at 3pm.
Coach Vela Tawake said the team was in good hands under the Veinuqa, Tailevu native.
“He is one of the leaders you need on and off the field. The team is in good hands,” Tawake said.
Utonitakari was introduced to the sport in 2006 while attending Laucala Bay Secondary School. It was the year the Vodafone Cup competition was introduced in the secondary schools competition.
He plays prop and previously represented the Police Sharks before moving to Nadi and captained the Nadi Eels since 2015 in the FNRL Vodafone Cup competition.
“It is an honour to lead this team against a champion side from Papua New Guinea where rugby league is their national sport,”he said.
“Our team has a pool of talented and disciplined players which should form a formidable team as well.
“But we need to be alert throughout the match against a champion side.
The side is boosted with the inclusion of Fiji Resident players Joasa Drodrolagi (Nabua Broncos), Anisito Komai (Kinoya Sea Eagles) and winger Simon Wise (Coastline Roos).
Nadi-based players Simon Lomaloma (locks) has joined the team after returning from New Zealand
Apolosi Ranawai (front row) and Maika Serulevu (outside centre) will add the much needed firepower.
He said the wet weather in Nadi last week has not deterred their preparation.
