The 2017 Druku Memorial Open surfing competition is set for February 25. The event which was earlier scheduled for February 11 but had to be deferred due to extreme weather conditions.

According to the Fiji Surfing Association, the competition is to be held at Cloudbreak.

“The event is one of the season openers for the Fiji Surfing Association. Previously it was called the King of Cloudbreak. The event is to pay tribute to Chief Druku who passed away last year.”

The event has been developed with prize money and has invited overseas surfers to promote a higher level of competition for Fijian surfers at the country’s premier break.

“The top 8 surfers will qualify for the final wildcard trial event in May and they gain entry into the men’s world championship tour event to be hosted by Fiji.”

The FSA expressed their gratitude to Hurley and Tavarua Resort for supporting the event.
