A family of Nabua Road in Suva, are thankful to be alive after their house was partially destroyed in a fire, yesterday morning.

It was a Government quarters home in which the family has been residing in since 2009. The fire destroyed the kitchen and the washroom.

Family member 22-year-old Alowasi Tucika said: “The incident happened between 7am to 8am when we were sleeping.

“We do not know the cause of the fire but it started from the kitchen.

“No one was injured.”

Ms Tucika said there were four of them at the house during the time of the incident while her mother and relatives had gone to work.

“While, we were waiting for the National Fire Authority (NFA) fire truck to arrive, our neighbours helped us to put out the fire.”

When the fire truck arrived, the combined parties stopped the fire.

“Our neighours and NFA fire truck managed to stop the spread of the fire to rest of our house and other houses,” she said.

NFA continues with investigation.
