Breakers Brothers, the youth band from Cakaudrove Province, Vanua Levu, launched their first album at the Civic Centre in Labasa on Friday.

The band, made up of 11 unemployed youths, wowed their audience with their harmonious voice.

The name of the volume is ‘Sadauvoqomaiveiau’ and it has 11 iTaukei songs.

“There are altogether 25 youths who are all unemployed from Cakaudrove Province,” said Breakers Youth Club co-ordinator Nemai Uluilakeba.

“These youths are divided into two groups, music and sports.”

11 youths are in music and the rest are in a rugby sevens team.

“The youths last year raised funds and we were able to buy the sound system and pay for the cost of releasing volume one.

“The purpose of forming this club was to open doors for youths to use their talent and raise funds through music and sports.”

She said the fund would be distributed to youths as a form of income while some would be put aside for operation costs and upcoming events.

“Life for these youths have been very challenging since there are not many jobs available in Savusavu,” Ms Uluilakeba said.

“Sometimes youths sit in my house and share about their struggle which moved me and my husband to step forward to form a club to assist them.

We would like to thank all those who supported our first launch and we hope to receive continuous support as we have planned for more programmes.”
