Kolaia Kinibaka aims to win gold in the junior boys high jump in the 2017 Coca-Cola Games on April 20-22 at the ANZ Stadium.

The Year 10 student set a new school record with a jump of 1.80m for Cakau during the Ratu Kadavulevu School inter-house athletics competition on Friday.

He first participated at the Coke Games last year and won a silver medal recording 1.75m.

And the lanky Nadi native is more determined to do better this year.

Kinibaka said he took part last year without track shoes.

But his dad Sanaila Mariqana has already bought him a new pair as a gift after his debut last year.

“I always thank my family for their support. Last year I took part with no track shoes but my dad has already bought me a new pair for this year.

“This will definitely boost my performance as I want to win a gold medal and make my school proud,” Kinibaka said.

“I know gold will not come easy it involves a lot of commitment and dedication.

“I’ve to let go of junk foods so my body will be in top shape come the Fiji Finals.”
