Tongan native Kyle Kava is keen to continue the family tradition of playing hockey for Fiji.

Kava, 18, who captained St Thomas High School Under -19 team last year, will make his debut in the second round of the Hockey World League in Dhaka, Bangladesh on March 4-12.

He is among the 22 players named by the Fiji Hockey Federation.

“To be part of the national team is an honour,” Kava said.

“All my families play hockey, it’s like a family sport. My mum Yvette Kava was a member of the national team and also my cousins so I am just continuing the family tradition.”

Kava, who has maternal links to Kulukulu, Nadroga, is grateful for the support of his families, friends and his club Blue Star

“Being based in Lautoka, I’ve to move to Suva to attend training and be with the experienced players.

“Training is hard but my aim is to improve on my skills and get as much exposure as I can.

“Hopefully when I return from Dhaka, I will focus on my education as I want to study architecture at the Fiji National University,” he said.
