There were easy wins for Fiji and Samoa on day 1 of the 2017 ICC World Cricket League Qualifier – East Asia-Pacific in Bendigo, Australia.

Samoa’s captain Ben Mailata led the way taking five wickets and scoring 58 not out against Japan. Chasing just 145 for victory Samoa’s Pritchard Pritchard attacked from the start of the Samoan innings scoring 28 off 17 balls before retiring hurt. Samoa passed the target in the 26th over just four (4) wickets down.

In the final match of the day at the Queen Elizabeth Oval, Fiji recorded a strong win over the Philippines by six wickets in a rain affected match.

Fiji’s Mohammed Imran Khan rolled through the Philippines’ batters taking 5 for 20 off 10 overs, while Karweng Ng top scored for the Philippines with 71. Despite several rain showers interrupting play during the Fijian innings, they cruised past the target in the 38th over just four wickets down.
