The Key Strategies which would result in a better Tourism Industry were discussed at Sofitel Fiji resort and Spa yesterday.

Representatives, agencies and key tourism industry stakeholders attended a consultation on the 2021 Fijian Tourism Plan.

Permanent secretary for industry, trade and tourism Shaheen Ali was also part of the consultation.

Mr Ali said the tourism sector was the most important contributor to the Fijian economy and discussions as such would help plan for the industry’s future.

He added the stakeholders views on the draft strategies were important.

He also said: “The strategies have evolved and has been brought in line with the overall vision of the Fijian Government, which is to provide the enabling environment to elevate the tourism sector.”

Mr Ali also pointed out the main objectives of the consultation to the tourism stakeholders present at the meet.

“The objectives of the plan are to expand visitor expenditure and tourism yield, create a conducive environment for a sustainable increase in visitor arrivals and support development of a sustainable and inclusive tourism sector,” Mr Ali said.

He also urged representatives, agencies and key tourism industry stakeholders to contribute during the consultation.

“This is your opportunity to be part of the solution. A solution that is for the long term,” he said.

“A solution that is not only beneficial to a few, but to all who are part of the industry, whether a big hotel franchise or a small business providing auxiliary services to the industry.”

The stakeholders can provide written comments by March 2.

The consultation for the north will be held on February 28.

 

About the Consultation

The Fijian Government began work on the tourism development plan to set strategies that will elevate the industry to a $2.2 billion sector by the end of 2021.

The consultations is a process which will brings the industry very close to the fruition of the plan.
