The Vodafone Fijian 7s players went through their fitness test during their training session at the Uprising Beach Resort yesterday.

Head Coach Gareth Baber confirmed the 20 players had passed their test and were waiting for the final selection for the Las Vegas-Vancouver tournaments in North America next month.

“We had the official fitness test, going full physical contact and we are training to work as a team and on our basic structures,” Baber said.

He also mentioned their performances in Wellington and Sydney. He said he was confident they would improve from their mistakes and produce better results in the next tournament.

“We have learnt a lot of stuff from what we didn’t do well in Wellington and Sydney but we will keep going as a team and for them to get to know their new coach so we can develop the group,” he said.

“I am learning to look at many outcomes. I’m also interested in the development of individuals as this is a good place so that’s what I assess every time I go for the training sessions, exactly as I do in the testing sessions.”

Baber said he would name his 14-member squad soon.

The team departs for Las Vegas on Monday.

Domolailai fighting back

Vodafone Fijian 7s forward Apisai Domolailai is looking forward to making the cut for World Sevens Series in Las Vegas –Vancouver next month.

He missed the first two legs because he was on a rehabilitation programme.

“The preparations have been good, I am happy to be back at camp and do full training.

“I am really confident and I think I have been improving on my fitness compared to last week,’’ he said.

Domolailai was appreciative towards the support from the management and the team.
