Women in Business (WIB) hosted a breakfast as part of their networking and preparation towards the 2017 Westpac Women in Business Awards.

This was at Paradiso Restorante in Suva yesterday.

WIB president, Nur Bano Ali said the applications forms were ready and those interested could apply.

“We normally see women refraining from applying, therefore we are requesting other friends and company chief executive officers to nominate women who have performed well in the past and are continuing to contribute positively to the businesses,” Ms Ali said.

She added they had received 50 applications already and were looking forward to around 300-350 application for this year’s event.

“We have four categories which are Business Woman of the Year, Executive Woman of the Year, Manager of the Year and Aspiring Entrepreneur of the Year,” she said.

“The nominees will then be shortlisted, undergo further assessment, have panel interviews and then the finalists would be announced.

“We then would have winners announced at the event.”

She also said: “We have four male champions who are availing themselves to help us for the awards and we thank them for their efforts.

“The four of them are: chief executive officer, Fijian Holdings Nouzab Fareed, chief executive of Investment Fiji,  Godo Muller-Teut, general manager, Bluescope Fiji, Chris McLoughlin and general manager,Pacific Agencies, Craig Strong.

Mr Fareed, encouraged the women to nominate their friends who had the capability.

“Normally WIB receives about 100 applications but this year we urge women to apply,” Mr Fareed said.

“We encourage women participation in board levels and different business levels as well.”

The 2017 WIB Awards nominations deadline is 7th April and the awards ceremony will be held on the 20th of May, 2017 at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
