Fifteen people including children were rushed to the Nadi Hospital after the bus they were travelling in collided with the 10-wheeler truck in Navakai Road in Nadi yesterday.

Mereseini Seniteteva, 30, a passenger, was accompanying a group of children in the bus when the incident happened.

“It was a biggest shock I have ever felt, my body is still shaking but thank God, we are all right,” Ms Seniteteva said.

The group boarded the bus from Martintar en-route to Nadi Town. She said over 20 passengers were on board.

She said the bus was travelling at great speed when she suddenly heard a big bang.

Some passengers shouted as she tried to hold the children back from the steel frame of the seat but to no avail.

“It was  sudden.”

When this newspaper visited the hospital some of the accident victims were on the bed awaiting medical attention while some had already been attended to.

Police spokesperson (west) Corporal Wame Bautolu confirmed the incident happened around 4pm.

“The bus was on its way to Nadi town via the new lane from Wailoaloa and collided with a 10 wheeler truck,” Mr Bautolu said.

He said investigation was continuing.

“We again wish to reiterate to drivers to drive responsibly with extreme care at all times.”

When this edition went to press some passengers and the driver were being attended to at the Nadi hospital.
