The inculcation of leadership skills for students must be mandatory, as students are the future of this great country.

These were the words delivered by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Fiji, Professor Prem Misir at the Tilak High School’s prefects induction yesterday in Lautoka.

And to the newly inducted prefects, Professor Misir said: “As prefects of this high school, you have a moral and social responsibility to develop and sharpen your leadership capabilities.”

This was not only to enhance the school’s new approach to education, but to enrich the social consciousness of your fellows, he said.

“And prefects, you should know that the pursuit of truth, honesty, and compassion can be a practical framework for honing your leadership skills,” he said.

Inducted were Nicole Morgam of Year 13 as the headgirl and Sefanaia Vakaloloma as the headboy.

Nicole in her speech expressed her sincere gratitude to the school management and the heads for believing in her.

“Being a headgirl for me is not something that represents popularity, to me is it about friendship to loyalty, commitment and drive,” Nicole said.

“Unity is very important,” she said.

The newly inducted prefects, deputies and head took a pledge of commitment led by the headboy Sefanaia.
