Silverwater Baabaas Debut

The Silverwater Barbarians will play in their first Fijian Bitter Marist 7s on March 24-25 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
Formed in August last year, the team aims to impress on debut in the country’s biggest local sevens tournament.
The side took part in the Island Chill Serua 7s tournament yesterday to prepare for the annual two-day tourney.
“The Baabaas aged 18-22 years come from the 14 provinces in Fiji but all residing in Tailevu,”Coach James Hamagushi said.
“Some of the players come all the way from the interior of Viti Levu and we take them to boot camp to instill discipline in them.
“Our long term plan as a club is to develop these players and prepare them for life after rugby.
“We’re treating the Serua 7s and the Uluinakau 7s as a build up for the Marist 7s tournament.
“It’s where all big teams participate and it will be good for us to play the big guns and we want to make an impressive showing on our debut.”
He also thanked major sponsors Silverwater Fiber Glass, K.R Latchan as their main transport sponsor and their committee for doing their fundraising to help cater for the 24 players in the club.
The other sponsors are Sigatoka Electrical, Ba Motor Parts and Ratu Epenisa Cakobau.
The team took part in the sixth tournament yesterday as they have played two overseas tournaments, Adelaide 7s and the Melbourne 7s tournament and four local ones.
But the biggest tournament so far would be the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s next month in Suva.
