The Vodafone Fijian 7s coach, Gareth Baber and the Fiji Rugby Union yesterday named the team for the third leg of the 2017 World Sevens Series in Las Vegas and Vancouver next month.

And FRU chief executive officer John O’Connor has urged the team to win both tournaments if they are to defend the series title.

The selection sees the return of Masivesi Dakuwaqa, Apisai Domolailai and Waisea Nacuqu with the bulk of players that represented Fiji at the Wellington and Sydney 7s retained for this leg.

Baber was pleased with the work that the players had put in given the short turnaround.

“Selection for the two tournaments have been very competitive and I am pleased with the work that the players have put in over the last two weeks,”Baber said.

“Masivesi and Apisai come in and I am looking forward to seeing their leadership and points of difference on display in Vegas and Vancouver. Waisea Nacuqu has also been very impressive during training.”

O’Connor congratulated the team and encouraged the boys to play to their best.

“We are now into the fifth tournament of the series and in order to successfully defend the title you will have to work harder for the rest of the series,”O’Connor said.

“The FRU and your many fans in Fiji and around the world believe that you can do it.  So now it is up to you to go out there and perform like champions and win both tournaments.”

Vodafone Fiji’s acting CEO,  Divik Deo wished the team all the best for the two tournaments.

“We’re going for the next leg of the series and the team has been training hard.  It is a great line-up with the return of two Olympians to the team. Exciting times ahead as all Fijians are ready to cheer on the team at Las Vegas and Vancouver,” Deo said.

“Be proud of the national jumper and deliver to the best of your ability for your fans and the country and best wishes to the team, Baber and officials”, Mr Deo added.

The Las Vegas 7s will be played on March 3-5 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Nevada and the Vodafone Fiji 7s team have been pooled with Australia, Japan and Scotland in Pool D.
