Army Green defeated Ratu Filise 31-14 in the Island Chill Serua 7s Cup final at Thomson Park, Navua yesterday.
The soldiers proved their worth in the two-day event and returned to their barracks in Nabua $3000 richer.
Team manager Alfred Silimaibau said they were confident throughout of winning the event.
“We’ve achieved what we came for and I am happy with our performance,”he said.
“It’s a brilliant start for us as we look forward to the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament on March 24-25.
Army was more composed, organized and stern in defence.
Rat Filise drew first blood but Inia Tukere opened the floodgates followed by a try to
Lemeki Matanisau to lead 10-7.
Alosio Waloi scored the first try in the second half followed by Inia Tawalo and Salacieli Ramatai. Ratu Filise scored a consolation try towards the end.
Ratu Filise manager Alipate Nailea said they are looking forward to the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s.
“I am happy with the performance as we know the Army came in prepared compared to us and I hope we will meet up again in the Marist 7s.”
In the semifinals Army Green defeated New Born Waibasaga 21-12 while Ratu Filise beat Army Red 17-10.
Former national player Sevuloni Lutu was the best player of the final.
