Eat Right, Live Longer

Participants at the 2017 Sports World Fun Walk/Run in Nadi were urged to consume local and fresh foods
Namaka Health Centre’s Dr Toyin Jenyo made the comment to over 200 runners who participated in 6.4 kilometre run from Namaka Police Station yesterday.
“Non-communicable disease (NCD) is now a big problem in our society,”Dr Jenyo said.
“Prevention is the key so eat fresh food and vegetables instead of canned and processed foods. We already have it here grown in our very own backyard,” he said.
Salote Tukana, 70, applauded the effort in trying to fight NCD.
“This is the second year that I have been part of this event and I’ve never felt better and healthy.
“I also can come and have my blood pressure, sugar level checked and most of all enjoyed it with my grandchildren. I would keep doing it because it keeps me fit and healthy,”Tukana said.
Sports World general manager Vinod Kumar acknowledged everyone that participated.
“When we are healthy we are able to enjoy our hard earned dollars and live well and longer,”Kumar said.
“The Sports World Fun Walk/Run is part of the Courts and Sports World Health and Fitness promotion which aims to improve wellness amongst all Fijians.”
The programme also included Zumba and awarding of prizes to participants
The event is supported by Courts, Ministry of Health, Fiji Sun, AquaSafe, Weet-Bix, Rewa Life and Vodafone.
