Special Luncheon for Women

A luncheon to recognise Women with Disability, not only as an athlete but administrators has been set for Thursday at the Suva Holiday Inn.
This was confirmed yesterday by FASANOC Women in Sports Commission chairperson Susie Yee.
She said the funding was given by the Women and Sport Oceania which was to recognise women in leadership positions.
“So we decided that we would host this luncheon for Women with Disability here in Suva,” she said.
The Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports, Alison Burchell is going to be the chief guest.
Yee said 12 women who are working with organisations like, Spinal Injury Association (SIA), Fiji Association for the Deaf (FAD), Psychiatric Survivors Association (PSA), United Blind Persons (UBP) and Fiji Disabled People’s Federation (FDPF) are going to be invited for the luncheon.
“They are going to be there together with an interpreter along with the chef de mission to the 2016 Paralympic Games, Mereoni Laveti Ropaigealach.”
Yee said 2016 Sportswoman of the Year, Merewalesi Roden would also be attending where she will talk about her experience.
“We would like to thank the executive chef of Holiday Inn Philippe Garand for providing the Banyon Room for this luncheon, and also Asaeleo Care and Pure Fiji who have kindly donated packs for the women.
“JR White vouchers will also be presented to each of the disability women so that they could purchase something to continue their sporting career,” she added.
The event starts at 12midday.
