Goundar Shipping Limited (GSL) has re-scheduled its departure time from Lovonivonu Jetty in Taveuni to Natuvu Jetty on Vanua Levu.

GSL managing director, George Goundar, said the reason was because of the fast travelling speed of the vessel Lomaiviti Princess IV.

Mr Goundar said they had to change the departing time at Lovonivonu Jetty from 7am to 8am.

He said this was to align with the bus arrival time to Natuvu.

Mr Goundar said since the beginning of their service in the northern division, passengers had to wait for the bus in Natuvu for another one hour.

“So now we will have to time the berthing of the vessel and the arrival of the bus so that passengers will not have any complaints.”

Moreover, he said, from this week both boat and bus fares were $10 flat.

“This is the cheapest fare I can give my passengers,” said Mr Goundar.

This is a big boost for the business people in Taveuni and Vanua Levu.

The first trip to Taveuni via the new route, there were 200 passengers and 10 vehicles.

Mr Goundar thanked the people in the division for trusting their services.

“For me, I just want to provide good service to the people in the North.”

Meanwhile, Mr Goundar said the Lomaiviti Princess IV will also be operating on a 24/7 basis.

This he said was to provide the Ministry of Health (MOH) a free service on emergency response in any way – an effort to support Government’s services.

An ambulance that used to be based in Natuvu was moved to Taveuni because GSL had confirmed its availability on a 24/7 basis in cases of emergency.
