The signature drive for the proposed HOPE Party has begun. This was revealed by its vice-president, Pita Waqavonovono, yesterday.

He said the names of the proposed party’s office bearers were revealed by their agents in the field.

Mr Waqavonovono said it would be made public when they file their application with the Fijian Elections Office.

He said it should be understood that they do not hold themselves out to be a legal entity until they are formally registered as a political party.

However Mr Waqavonovono said by philosophy and the historical experiences of the leaders in the proposed HOPE movement, their ‘enemy’ was not shared by other political parties.

“Our enemy is systematic and has been fuelled by a culture of coups and corruption,” he claimed.

“SODELPA NFP and FLP want to dethrone Frank Bainimarama.”

Mr Waqavonovono said their proposed party’s war was not with the Bainimarama Government, but with what he called unemployment, poor health facilities, poor job creation facilities, poor educational reform facilities, mediocre services and disaster recovery response as well as poverty.
