Top angler Ryan Markwell on board Fruitloop won the overall boat winner at the inaugural Brian Eastgate Memorial Competition in Denarau last weekend.

Markwell on board Fruitloop caught an impressive 55.6kg Yellow fin Tuna during the Denarau Game and Sports Fishing Club organised event.

Club secretary Jared Wood said the organisers were impressed with the one day event.

He said the event was a promising one and they plan to host a bigger and better competition next year.

“The competition was a great success with eight boats and 25 anglers participating in the event,” he said.

“The fishing was tough, however a number of boats managed to land fish.”

The heaviest Mahimahi weighed  8.1 kg was caught by Les Titter fishing on board Blo.

Relaxn took out the big boat category.

Wood thanked traditional tournament sponsors including Namotu Island Resort, DevCorp, Flame Tree, McDonalds Fiji, Higgins, Port Denarau Marina and Blue Gas, and MM Construction.

Meanwhile, DGSC members are preparing for the 31st annual Fiji International Game Fishing Tournament on July 28 -30.

“We are in. It is always a fun event and definitely more members will be competing in the event as well,” he said.

This event is organised by the Pacific Harbour Game Fishing Club in association with The Pearl Resort.
