The Patrick Faapale captained- Samoa A rugby team have only one thing in mind and that is to beat the Telecom Fijian Warriors in this year’s World Rugby Pacific Challenge.

The Samoans arrived at Nadi International Airport yesterday brimming with confidence that they are going to win the competition.

“Our target is to win over Fiji because it has been a long time since we have not beaten them,” coach Potu Leavasa told SUNsports.

“Last year we came and finished second and we are looking at something different and perhaps a win this year.”

The former Manu Samoa and Highlanders lock said, the side have a mixture of Under-20 and Manu Samoan players.

They have players like New Zealand based- Jeff Lepa (lock), Danny Tuistala (halfback), Ope Peleseuma (centre) and Jake Grey (tight head prop).

“Some under-20 and Manu Samoa players are not playing professional rugby but are here to prove themselves to the Manu Samoa head coach Alama Ieremia because the June test is coming up. This gives the players a good chance to perform.

“We put this team together for one week and have prepared well so we are here to compete.

“We always play against Fiji and it has been a while that we have not beaten them.”

The Samoans face Junior Japan in their opening encounter on Friday at 3pm.

“We know Japan is a tough team but we are confident of a good outing,” Leavasa said.
