Basic Right For Rewa

Getting the basics right will be crucial for Rewa when they play Marist FC from Solomon Islands in their debut during the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Champions League on Saturday.

The team will fly to Tahiti today and technical advisor Gurjit Singh said the three warm up games in Auckland has shown areas they need to work on.

“We have been preparing well. We have already played three build-up games which have been very beneficial for us,” Singh said.

“We have been strengthening our game before our debut.

“The build-up games have given us a fair idea on the individual players’ performance.”

Rewa thrashed Mount Albert Ponsonby 6-0 and drew 1-1 in their last two games against Western United of Solomon Islands and Franklin FC.

Singh knows the standard the players need to be in to be competitive.

“Every game in our pool is important and we will be treating it like a final,” he said.

“Our first game against Marist is crucial in how we start our campaign,” Singh said.

“Coach Marika Rodu has been attending his licence coaching course and has made himself available to be at all the build-up games.

“So far, everything is looking good and going to plan. All that’s left now is to bring everything together before our first game.

“It will be a tough tournament and the boys know what is expected of them and what they need to do.”

Rewa will play Marist FC on Saturday followed by their next game on Tuesday against AS Tefana and their final pool match against Erakor Golden Star from Vanuatu next Friday.
