State Files Application To Combine Alleged Rape Files

The state prosecution in an alleged rape case has made an application to the court to consolidate two rape files, where the complainant is the same person.

State lawyer, Meli Vosawale made the application at the High Court in Suva yesterday before Judge Justice Vincent Perera.

The case: Two men were alleged to have raped their 13-year-old niece between July 21 and July 31, last year in Lau.

Defence lawyer for the first accused, Safaira Ratu, did not object to the state prosecution’s application.

Defence lawyer for the second accused, Taina Leweni, was not present in court to confirm the same.

The case was adjourned to March 16 for the second accused to confirm if he agreed to the consolidation of the two files.
