Westpac will be holding its first Health Walk for 2017 tomorrow.

An invitation is extended to all to join them at 6am at Albert Park in Suva and Namaka Police Station Ground in Nadi.

This walk is organised in partnership with Westpac Fiji, Ministry of Health and Medical Services – Wellness Unit, Fiji Physiotherapy Association and supporters, Fiji National Sports Commission and Think Pacific.

In 2011, Westpac turned its attention to public health and well-being and started a major initiative to get people across Fiji exercising.

Since then, Westpac has taken a role in the national awareness health programme aiming to combat non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

NCDs are largely caused by lack of exercise, unhealthy diet and smoking and can be avoided with lifestyle changes.

The programme tomorrow includes free health checks, 10 minutes of warm up exercises, 30 minutes brisk walk, 10 minutes of warm down exercises and ends with a healthy breakfast of fruits.

“It is great to see entire families come in the morning to participate,” said general manager, Westpac Fiji, Brett Hooker.

“We know that walking regularly has so many benefits – it reduces the risk of heart disease, helps reduce weight, gives energy as it boosts circulation and increases oxygen supply to the cells in the body and boosts your mood.

“I encourage people who live in, or are visiting Nadi to please come and participate in the Westpac Health Walk this Saturday – it’s not only good for you, but a fun morning out too!”.
