It was a traumatising ordeal for Rajneesh Charan on Monday when she was robbed in broad daylight at Vitogo Parade, Lautoka.

Mrs Charan made her way to town at around 2pm to buy medicine. As she was looking for a parking spot she said a young man approached her from the side door.

“My attention went to the man who was saying, ‘Baini, your tyre is punctured’,” she said.

“I opened my door, got out of the car to look at the tyre. At the same time another person quickly opened the car door from the other side, took my handbag and ran off.

“All this happened so fast. I shouted and ran after the man but he was just too fast.”

Mrs Charan’s handbag contained her mobile, cash in local and foreign currency, a cheque book, house and office keys, cards and a USB.

“I am thankful that at least they did not hurt me or damage my car,” she said.

Mrs Charan felt the need to share her story to create awareness so that other women drivers didn’t become victims as well.

She has lived in Lautoka for over 10 years.

A report has been lodged with Police. Mrs Charan was informed by the officers that other people, especially women, were robbed in a similar manner.
