An Australian lawyer and engineer currently working in Vanuatu is expected to head the Land Transport Authority as its new chief executive officer.

LTA board chairperson Vijay Maharaj said the appointment had been confirmed and a three-year contract was signed recently.

“Currently, the new CEO is working in Vanuatu and is expected to arrive in Fiji before May,” Mr Maharaj said.

“He comes from an engineering background and is a lawyer, who will give a new direction to LTA.”

LTA needs a culture change and the new CEO was the right person to take LTA forward, he said.

“We needed someone who can drive LTA in a different and positive direction, including the staff and all the stakeholders.

“We also needed someone who could improve on the service delivery of LTA as there have been a lot of issues and concerns from the LTA’s service delivery,” he said.

“We hope that the new CEO will stand out and work towards improving on the LTA’s services and number of work in progress.”

However, Mr Maharaj said the announcement of the new CEO will be made once his work permit is approved. There were six local applicants while LTA consultants for recruitment received more than 50 applications from Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand, India, Malaysia and other countries.
