The Fiji Police Force has issued a strong warning to secondary school students allegedly involved in near brawls at the Suva Bus Station.

The warning comes after students of two prominent schools in Suva were in a stand-off on Friday afternoon.

“If students get caught, they could face the likelihood of being charged with assault,” Police Chief of Operations, Rusiate Tudravu said.

“We will not hesitate to charge any student if they’re found to be involved in such acts.”

A Suva City Council worker had alerted the Suva Market Police Community Post after he had heard students plan their so-called attack. Three Police officers were sent to the scene but the students kept their distance while the officers were in sight.

ACP Tudravu said a number of students had been charged earlier and their cases were before the courts.

“We really don’t see why any student should be involved in brawls these days,” ACP Tudravu said.

“If you have an issue, address it by means that is civil and does not end up in one getting hurt and the other facing the consequences of the law because we will not hesitate to charge any student if they’re found to be involved in such acts.”
