Driver Loses Use Of Leg After Nadi Crash

The driver of the vehicle which was involved in a fatal accident in Korovuto, Nadi, last month lost the use of his left leg after an operation on Saturday.

When visited at the Lautoka Hospital men’s ward by the Fiji Sun yesterday, 43-year-old Rajnesh Sharma said he had his damaged cartilage and bone in the knee joint on his left leg removed on Saturday.

This meant that he could not fold his left leg anymore.

He said he was happy to be alive, but was not sure how long he would be admitted.

“I am still at the hospital and I do not know how long I will be here,” Mr Sharma said.

He has suffered three fractures on one leg and a major one on the other.

“I already once had a leg operation after which I stopped working and was staying at home,” he said.

“That day (February 28), I was using my friend’s car to go to Nadi Town when I offered three other passengers a ride on the way.

“I didn’t expect to end up here.”

Mr Sharma for now is being cared for of by his wife at the hospital.

After hearing that one of the passengers in the vehicle he was driving had died on Thursday, he sent his condolence to the family.

“It will be a sad life ahead for me too as this day will always strike my thoughts through the life-long injuries on my body,” Mr Sharma said.

Two other passengers from the same accident remain admitted at the Lautoka Hospital.
