Baber Unhappy With Pool Loss

Vodafone Fijian 7s head coach Gareth Baber was happy that they bounced back to beat Australia 28-10 in the Cup quarterfinals yesterday.

“It was a bit disappointing that we lost to Argentina in our final pool game,” he said.

Nick Malouf got the Australians off to a flyer when he rolled over from a breakdown close to the Fiji line. The missed conversion made it 0-5 to Australia, but Seremaia Tuwai was about to show his electric feet and ran in a try from his own half down the left side. With the conversion good, it was Samisoni Viriviri who then provided Masivesi Dakuwaqa with the offload for him to go under the posts leaving the halftime score at 14-5.

At the beginning of the second half it quickly became 21-5 after a try from Apisai Domolailai and conversion from Ravouvou. Nippy utility back Waisea Nacuqu came on for Tuwai and scored immediately for Fiji to make the final score, 28-10.

Meanwhile, the Vodafone Fijians lost 40-7 to England in the Cup semi-final before they edged out USA 28-24 to claim the bronze medal.
