Vodafone Fijian 7s star forward Jasa Veremalua was least worried about watching the Canada 7s tournament final in Vancouver yesterday as he held on to his newly-born daughter, Ranadi Cagimaira.

His wife, Vani Volavola gave birth to their daughter at around 11am yesterday and not even the sevens tournament could draw him away.

Veremalua was at the Lautoka Hospital all morning as his wife went into labour.

“No I did not even watch the games.

“I wanted to be here with my wife,” a beaming Veremalua told SUNsports.

“I am just so happy and my wife and daughter is the reason I’m here.”

Veremalua said both mum and baby were doing well.

However, the lanky forward said he was aiming to play in the Hong Kong and Singapore tournaments. He is determined to see that Fiji retain their hold on the most prestigious tournament out of the whole HSBC World Sevens Series.

“My daughter has given me more determination to win in Hong Kong,” he said.

Veremalua confirmed that he would be appearing for the Hideaway Hurricanes in the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament on March 24-25 at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.

“After that I will join the sevens camp in preparation for Hong Kong,” he added.
