Assessors Find Both Accused Not Guilty Of Rape

All three assessors have given an opinion that Josefa Bera and Matorino Madogo are not guilty of all rape charges.
The matter was yesterday called before Judge Justice Vincent Perera at the High Court in Suva.
Bera, 25, is charged with one count of rape and Madogo, 27, is charged with two counts of rape.
It is alleged that both the accused on September 11, 2015 at the golf course in Vatuwaqa, Suva, raped a 17-year-old girl.
Both the accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The victim, when giving evidence, had said that she had not consented to either of the accused to perform the sexual acts on her.
She had told the court that despite Bera telling her in the clubs that he wanted to have sex with her, she went along with him because she trusted him.
The victim had told the court that she did not know who Madogo was and had identified him as Bera’s friend who had raped her.
Justice Perera will be delivering his judgement later today.
