Churchill Park’s new athletics facility would be for all schools in the western division.

This was the word from the Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Infrastructure and Transport, Parveen Bala.

“I want all schools in the western division to utilise the new facility to enhance the performance of all athletes in the west,” Bala said.

Bala said even though the facility was in Lautoka, it did not mean it was only for schools in the sugar city.

“It should be a facility where other schools in the division can come and use for their zonal meets and this would be beneficial to sports as a whole.”

Lautoka City Council chief executive officer Jone Nakauvadra in his speech during the opening of the facility by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama on Tuesday said the whole of the western division came together in jubilation when Jasper Williams High School became the first team from the west to win the girls category at the Coke Games.

Nakauvadra said the opening of the new facility was a day of celebration for not only the people of Lautoka but the western division as a whole.

The move to build the new tracks was spearheaded by Bala following JWHS victory.
