Navosa Central College is leading the overall medal tally in the first day of the Nadroga/Navosa Athletics zone meet at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka yesterday.

The school returned to zonal competition after four years.

“Our aim is not coming here to participate but to make a mark during the 2017 Coca-Cola Games next month,” Coach Iliavi Sualabeci said.

The school bagged five gold, three silver and one bronze medals, Cuvu College second (3, 6, 4), Sigatoka Methodist third (3, 4, 7) and Lomawai Secondary fourth (3, 0, 1).

Nadroga/Navosa meet manager Meshar Ali said: “For the first time after a long period, 12 secondary schools are participating in our zone meet. We will have a good pool of athletes to choose from to represent Nadroga/Navosa at the Coke Games.”

Ali acknowledged the athletes and teachers for their support.

“All the schools in Nadroga came out in force and I applaud the principals and the Ministry for Education for making it possible.”

The competition continues today.
