The Nadi International Airport has become the first airport in the South Pacific region to receive the Airport Carbon Accreditation Level 1 Certification by the Airports Council International (ACI).

Airports Fiji Limited Executive Chairman Faiz Khan said this was a milestone achievement for Nadi International Airport.

“To be recognised amongst some of the biggest airports in the world is a remarkable feat for Airports Fiji Ltd. It does not stop here as we aspire to further reduce our carbon footprint. We are targeting a Level 3 or 3+ certification in future,” Khan said.

“With our Prime Minister leading the charge against climate change as the President of COP 23, we are happy to contribute in some meaningful way to his vision,” expressed Khan.

“I wish to congratulate Nadi International Airport on the significant achievement, as the first airport in the Pacific Island States to be airport carbon accredited. The accreditation demonstrated the determination of the airport in operating the airport in an environmentally sustainable manner. We look forward to working closely with Nadi International Airport in their journey towards carbon neutrality.” said Patti Chau, Regional Director of ACI Asia-Pacific.

AFL has also implemented a Carbon Management Policy to manage its carbon performance.

“The Nadi Airport Terminal Modernization Project has resulted in more natural lights into our terminal. We have energy saving LED lights, sensor activated lights, a new water chiller Air Conditioning System and a Building Management System for a greener airport. We are also looking at other renewable energy such as solar,” explained Khan.AFL has been invited to the ACI – Asia Pacific Regional Assembly in Doha on April 11 for the Airport Carbon Accreditation Certificate Presentation.
