Government Works Out Plan for New Nausori Hospital

People in Nausori have been advised to access health care services at nearby areas as Government is still working towards developing a new hospital.
Minister for Health and Medical Services, Rosy Akbar while speaking in Parliament yesterday, said the new Nausori hospital was initially designed to provide 55 beds based on 2005 estimates of likely patient numbers.
The plan, she said was for the hospital to be constructed at Vunivivi Hill in Nausori.
With the significant growth in population and businesses, Ms Akbar said they decided an 80 bed hospital would be needed and the planning process went ahead.
However, she said the original site couldn’t accommodate a hospital designed to provide the required 80 beds.
While Government worked on developing a new Nausori hospital, Ms Akbar said those currently residing in Nausori and nearby areas to access health care services at several locations:
- Nausori Health Centre, has 4 beds and 1 Emergency bed. It provides general outpatient, emergency, special outpatient, dental and pharmacy services;
- Nausori Maternity has 12 inpatient beds, 1 first stage labour bed (prior to delivery) and 2 delivery beds.
- Wainibokasi Hospital provides general outpatient services, emergency services along with 12 adult inpatient beds and a children’s ward.
- Mokani Health Centre provides similar services.
