The Vodafone Fiji football players are now undergoing mental preparation as they prepare to face New Zealand All Whites in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Saturday.

The match at Lautoka’s Churchill Park kicks off at 1pm.

Head coach Christophe Gamel said yesterday that the players need to stay focused throughout the match if they are to score an upset win.

“We cannot afford to lose focus,” he said.

“It is the problem here. You take it easy. It’s the problem where you play but you’re not mentally tough all the time.”

Captain and Wellington Phoenix star striker Roy Krishna joined their training session at Churchill Park. On his arrival on Monday night, Krishna said the target was to qualify for the World Cup in Russia.

“The first game is important for Fiji as we have the home advantage,” he said.

“ Playing against the All Whites is going to be tough as they are Oceania champions. Like I’ve said before on the game day it’s eleven against eleven.”
